David Michael Swetnam 69 of Chapin was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday April 29 2015 at his residence. A Celebration of Mike's life will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday May 2 2015 at First Church of the Nazarene 901 St. Andrews Rd Columbia conducted by the Rev. Dennis Pinnell. All attending are invited to a fellowship meal following the service. Born on June 11 1945 in Independence Missouri he was the son of Jean Swetnam of Kansas City MO and the late Lester Swetnam. He worked with the SC Department of Corrections as a systems analyst and was the former owner of VoiceMagic. Mike was an active member of First Church of the Nazarene in Columbia where he participated in the choir and many other activities including mission work in Haiti. He was an army veteran of the Vietnam War. A true Gamecocks and Kansas City Chiefs fan and outdoorsman he enjoyed fishing riding motorcycles participating in and completing the Marine Mud Run as well as planning for his Skydiving experience on his 70th birthday. He was a talented musician and actor. Mike is best described as a loving son brother husband father and grandfather. In addition to his mother he is survived by his wife Cate Swetnam; sons Michael Neil Swetnam (Michelle) of Irmo and Michael Bryan Swetnam (Lorena) of Columbia; step-daughter Tracy Violette (Peter) of Bluffton; six grandchildren; sister GiGi Carlson (Jeff) of Kansas City MO; and former wife Lois Sheets.
