David M. Winchester, Jr., age 56, of Newberry, died October 5, 2023 at his home.

Born May 26, 1967, he was a son of the late David Michael Winchester, Sr. and Mary Howell New. He was married for 29 years to Sheri Moon Winchester.

David enjoyed life and loved to laugh make others laugh. He did those things in a variety of ways – from talking junk, just like his Dad, to enjoying Clemson football and simply spending time with others. In particular, he shared some great football adventures with family members, inclusive of dancing the funky chicken, coming up with fun names for others, and even the occasional side-trip. David was a caring person who would give someone the shirt off of his back or his last dollar, if they were in need. He also gave of his time, coaching Little League Baseball with Leroy. To be sure, he enjoyed having fun with the kids more than the baseball.

He worked in construction most of his adult life, and in recent years, joined the family business, Winchester Rentals. It was during this time that another attribute of David's was noted – that when frustrated, he was exceptional at throwing tools.

Most importantly, David loved his family, even if it meant making chicken wings for Shanon, who he knew did not eat them. He was proud of his family and genuinely enjoyed spending time with them.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Mary Howell New (Leroy) of Jonesville; sister Shanon Winchester of Newberry; daughter Ashley Cantrell Morgan (Chris) and grandsons Cole and Junior of Ninety-Six; stepson Dustin Moon; stepdaughter Jamie Pitman; step-grandchildren Matthew, Cadie, and Jacob Moon.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister Kristy Winchester.

The family will receive friends at Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry, on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM.

Graveside services will be held at Union Memorial Gardens, in Union, SC on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at 11:00 AM.

Pallbearers will be Leroy New, James Howell, Charlie Brown, Tatiana Swittenburg, Alanya Becknell and Brayden Rector.
