Dewel Satterfield Proffitt, 86, of Joanna died on Monday, January 16, 2017 at McLeod Hospice House in Florence.
Born on January 30, 1930 in Laurens County, she was a daughter of the late Martin Dial and Ruth Ramey Satterfield.
She was a member of Sharon United Methodist Church and was a retired employee of the Torrington Bearing Company. She played the piano at her church for over forty years and was a professional bowler which offered her travel to many locations.
Survivors include her son and his wife, Gary and Ann Proffitt of Florence; grandchildren, Brian Proffitt and Mark Proffitt both of Florence; sister, Linda McKittrick and her husband Raymond of Sufolk, VA; and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by James Nabors, her companion of forty years.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, January 21, 2017 at Sharon United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Mitchel Wray. Interment will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 20, from 5:30 until 7:30 PM at the Whitaker Funeral Home, 1704 College St., Newberry, SC.
Honorary pallbearers will be attending law enforcement officers.
