Dewey B. Byrd Sr. 81 of 107 Byrd St. Prosperity died Monday November 1 2010 at Providence Hospital. Born on April 1 1929 in Richland County he was the son of the late M. Dewey and Pauline Shirah Byrd. Mr. Byrd was a Navy Veteran having served from 1946 to 1950. He was a retired employee of Counts Sausage Co. and attended Faith Assembly of God. Mr. Byrd is survived by his wife of 64 years Audrey McNair Byrd; daughter and son-in-law Frances and Clarence Howard of Prosperity; sons and daughters-in-law Dewey B. Jr. and Jackie Byrd of Saluda Eddie and Sharon Byrd of Newberry; brothers Kaigler N. Byrd of West Columbia and Marion L. Byrd of Winnsboro; grandchildren Tammy Steele Steven Byrd Stephanie Whitfield Rhonda Maddox Brian Byrd Angela Foster Christopher Byrd Leon Howard Crystal Howard Eric Byrd Julie Byrd Justin Byrd and Joseph Byrd; and twenty-six great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son Walter D. Byrd. Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 PM Thursday at the First Baptist Church of Prosperity by the Rev. Dewain Willis and the Rev. Jimmy Counts. Interment with military honors did follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family at his residence and did receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry. Active Pallbearers were his grandsons. Honorary pallbearers wree David Whitman Earle Dominick Danny Mettze and Henry Robinson.
