Donald L. "Donnie" Kitchen, 70, of Joanna, died, Sunday, March 26, 2017 at Palmetto Health Baptist Parkridge in Columbia, SC.
Donnie was born in Clinton, the son of the late Lester and Mary King Kitchen. He retired from the S.C. Highway Patrol after 25 years of service. Following his retirement, he served as bailiff for the Newberry County Clerk of Court and for the Newberry County Magistrate's office.
He was a devoted Christian who loved his family dearly. He was a very active member of Fairview Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and served on the security team for the church.
A dedicated Clemson fan, Donnie also enjoyed fishing, camping, and time spent at the beach.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Johnson Kitchen; children, Lee Anne Kitchen and husband Mike Egleston of Newberry and Donald Shane Kitchen and his wife Amy of Peak; sister, Sue Wingard and her husband Freddie of Newberry; and grandchildren, Sophie and Henry Egleston, Derek Vereen, and Wallace and Davy Kitchen.
The family will be at the residence, 119 Reeder St., Joanna, SC and will receive friends at Whitaker Funeral Home, 1704 College St., Newberry, from 6:00 until 8:00 PM on Tuesday, March 28.
Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, March 29, at Fairview Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Monty Osborne. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers will be the Deacons of the Church.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the SC Highway Patrol.
