Donald Leo McCormick, 81, of Newberry, South Carolina, died on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at Prisma Health Richland Hospital. Born on September 4, 1944, in East Orange, New Jersey, Don was a cherished son of James Leroy McCormick
and Mary C. Waldron McCormick.
Don was a man of many talents and passions, known for his dedication to his work and his love for sports.
A huge basketball fan, Don was a devoted supporter of the Philadelphia 76ers, and his enthusiasm for sports extended to the Philadelphia Eagles in football and the Philadelphia Flyers in hockey. His television was often tuned to ESPN, reflecting his deep love for all things sports-related. Don also had a passion for music, particularly the Renaissance Bands, Pink Floyd, and other rock bands, with "Amazing Grace" holding a special place in his heart.
Don was immensely proud of his son, often sharing stories of his basketball prowess and achievements. His love for animals was evident in the care he provided to his chickens, roosters, and dogs, who were a significant part of his life.
Don and his wife, Kay formally owned Kay's Formal Occasions.
He is survived by his wife, Kay McCormick; son, Darrel McCormick; step-grandchildren, Charlie B. York and Alvin "Kent" K. York, III (Denna).
