Doris M. Brown Rathgaber, 86, of Chapin died Thursday, January 6, 2022 at her daughter's residence.
Born on October 14, 1935 in Midland, MI, she was a daughter of the late James Edward "Ed" Donahue and Myrtle Hester Roberts Donahue.
Doris was a member of Enoree Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Western Squares Club, where she served as president for 9 years. She loved to sew and made her own Square-Dancing outfits, so she could enjoy dancing and fellowship with friends. Doris enjoyed traveling and always looked forward to trips to the coast so she could put her toes in the sand and feel the ocean breeze around her.
She was "GG" (grandmother great) to her family and will always be remembered as great in so many ways. She was always the first to step up to the plate and she was always going to be there for you. She never had a bad word to say about anyone and was always willing to help. She truly was one of a kind, and will be sorely missed by her family.
Doris was the last surviving child out of 8 brothers and sisters, and lived to experience a fifth generation of family born. She is survived by children, Linda Stephen-Seaver (Robert) of Newberry, Steven L. Brown, Sr. and Debbie Booth Bascomb (Roger) all of Chapin; grandchildren, Jaimee Stephen-Turner, Michael Robert Booth, Schlayn Michelle Lillie, Jackie Lynn Booth-Taylor, Aspen Wale, Steven L. Brown, Jr. and Stephanie Brown; 17 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husbands, Robert Lee Brown and later Richard "Dick" Rathgaber; a son, Robert Lee Brown, Jr.; a granddaughter, Christine Marie Stephen; and her siblings.
A time of visitation will be held from 12 noon to 1:30 PM at Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry on Wednesday, January 12, 2022.
Funeral services will follow at 2:30 PM at Enoree Baptist Church by the Rev. George Leagans. Followed by interment in the church cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to Enoree Baptist Church, 14080 US Highway 176, Newberry, SC 29108.
