Doris Goree Mohler, 82, of Newberry died Wednesday, June 14, 2023 at Lexington Medical Center.

Born on July 29, 1940 in Newberry, she is the daughter of the late Osborne and Lillie Johnson Goree.

Doris graduated Cum Laude from Newberry College with a Bachelors in Mathematics, and furthered her education through studies at Columbia College, University of South Carolina, and Lander University. Over her 32-year career, she taught at Heyward Gibbes Junior High School, Cardinal Newman High School, Alcorn Middle School, and Newberry Middle School and impacted the lives of countless students.

She was a longtime member of O'Neil Street United Methodist Church. She was a volunteer for the Newberry Opera House, and always enjoyed the opportunity to meet and talk with the various performers.

Doris was survived by her daughter, Kathy Wicker (Doug); son, Burt Mohler (Lynn); grandchildren, Devin Price, Sarah Mohler, Laura Mohler, Noah Mohler, and Shawn Wicker (Kyleigh); sister, Lou Collier (Art); nieces, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and extended family.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Jack Goree, Virgil Goree, Furman Goree, Irby Goree, James Edward Goree, and Billy Goree.

Funeral services will be conducted by Rev. Seth Yi at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 19, 2023 at Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry. Burial will follow in Rosemont Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 5 – 6:30 Sunday, June 18, at Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry.

Pallbearers will be Gene Shealy, Bill Parr, Larry Bryant, Marion Reeves, Hal Burgess, and Chris Johnson.

The family expresses their appreciation to Doris's caregiver, Thelma, with Angel Care and the 9th Floor Unit of the North Tower of Lexington Medical Center, for their care of Doris.
