Dorothy Raye Berly Cochell of Newberry, died Sunday April 14, 2024 at her home.
Mrs. Cochell was born on February 1, 1925, in Pomaria, SC to the late John Cecil and Olive Stuck Berly. She was a graduate of Pomaria High School and the two-year Commerce course of Winthrop College. She worked as a secretary at Columbia Army Airbase during World War II and later "J. Walter Thompson" Advertising Agency and the Michigan Schools System.
Dorothy was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Pomaria, SC and Iroquois Ave. Lutheran Church in Detroit, MI. She enjoyed working in church activities and was a lifetime member of the WELCA having served as president and delegate for her church. Mrs. Cochell enjoyed being a homemaker and her hobbies included sewing and quilting. She delivered "Meals on Wheels" in Newberry for twenty years during her retirement.
Mrs. Cochell was married to the late Donald Edward Cochell for 63 years. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Dale and Renee Cochell of Brandon, FL, Richard Berly and Ann Cochell of Westminster, SC and John Hudson and Tracy Cochell of Westminster, SC; four grandchildren, Ryan Cochell and his wife Lauren, Patrick Cochell and wife, Allie, Burke Cochell and wife, Caroline, and Claire Cochell and fiancé, Eddie Smith; two great-grandchildren, Carter and Ella Cochell; sisters, Anne Eberl of Harlem, GA and Peggy Berley of Newberry, SC. She was predeceased by her brother, Cecil Berly, Jr.
Funeral services will be conducted 3:00 PM Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at St. Paul Lutheran Church by the Rev. Dawn Rister. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 1:30 to 2:45 PM in the Fellowship Hall, St. Paul Lutheran Church on Tuesday prior to the service.
