Obituary

Dorothy Elizabeth DuBose Cook, 94, of 1089 Bachman Chapel Road, Prosperity, SC went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at her residence. Born in Burgaw, N.C, she was the widow of the late Max Sam Cook and daughter of Junius DuBose and Susie Pickett DuBose of the Shelter Neck community near Burgaw. She retired from a secretarial career at Security Corporation, worked for Cook Brother's Farms, and was co-founder of Dor-Max Farms, Inc. She was a member of Wightman United Methodist Church. Her passion was intercessory prayer for her family and the community, and she opened her home to daily prayer for those willing to pray, and those desiring prayer. She was a powerful Bible teacher with an anointing for healing, a gift that produced God's healing power in the lives of many who sought her for wisdom and healing prayer. Her teaching began in her church with children and adult Sunday School classes and grew to reach people who came from every part of the county, many of whom she discipled in God's Word. Her favorite Bible passage was John 17 and her every morning prayer included "that we all will be one as the Father and the Son are One." She loved family gatherings, visiting her brothers and sisters in Wilmington, NC and especially seeing her children and grandchildren grow in faith and relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Surviving are three daughters, Maxine Bailey of Irmo, Shirley Weaver of Charleston and Marsha (Bill) Muller of Lexington; six grandchildren, Alex (Beth Ann) Bailey, Chris (Leigh) Bailey, Mamie (John) Rand, Meredith Hulen, John Weaver, and Ryan (Mariah) Price; 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Anne Graham and Caroline Cockrell; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Odell, Slim, Kellum, and Marion DuBose, and two sisters Isabel McCormick and Jannie Tatum. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on May 17 at Wightman United Methodist Church in Prosperity with Rev. Ben L. Barnett officiating. Masks are not required. Personal preference encouraged. Following the service, the family will greet friends at Mrs. Cook's residence.
