Dorothy "Granny Dot" Boozer Jones, 89, of Newberry, departed this life at home on Oct. 19, 2021, surrounded by her family.
She was born in 1932 in Prosperity to the late Mark Newton and Mae Lee Shealy Boozer. She was a 1951 graduate of Prosperity High School, and that same year, she married the late James David Jones, of Newberry. She was a homemaker, who loved spending time with family and friends and serving her community, delivering Meals on Wheels and volunteering with the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program. She was a faithful member of Summer Memorial Lutheran Church.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Dorothy was predeceased by a daughter, Beth Jones Hughes; her son, Keith David Jones; a brother, Lewis Newton Boozer; and an infant sister, Velma Mae Boozer.
She is survived by her daughter, Norma Jones Salter and her husband, Allen; her sisters, Fran Merchant and Ann Dawson; her brother, Ronald Boozer and his wife, Catherine; her daughter-in-law, Adair Jones Lewis; her grandchildren, Jay Salter, Brandi Pitts, Brian Jones, Dustin Jones, Jennifer Wood, John Hughes, and Amy Workman; four great-grandchildren, her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Medical Services of America for their care.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at Newberry Memorial Gardens on Friday, Oct. 22 at 10:00 AM, by the Rev. Karen Hawkins and the Rev. Jason Schafer. The family will receive friends at the graveside. There will be no formal visitation, however, the community is welcome to pay their respects on Thursday, Oct. 21, at Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry.
