Obituary

Dorothy Virginia Whitlatch, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, quiet strength, and unwavering devotion to those she loved. She was born on November 26, 1931, in Columbus, Ohio, to Irvin Beach and Myrtle Beach.

Dorothy answered the call to serve her country by enlisting in the United States Navy, where she faithfully served from May 14, 1952, until August 31, 1953. She carried the values of duty, integrity, and perseverance with her throughout the rest of her life.

On December 10, 1974, Dorothy married Blaine Riley Whitlatch. Together they shared many years of love, companionship, and commitment until Blaine's passing. Their marriage was built on faithfulness and a shared appreciation for life's simple blessings.

Dorothy devoted much of her professional life to serving as a school secretary. She was often one of the first friendly faces students, parents, and teachers encountered each day. Her calm presence, caring heart, and dependable nature made her a trusted friend and colleague. She found joy in helping others and took great pride in being on time and was known for being the first one ready for any of life’s adventures

Outside of her career, Dorothy embraced the simple pleasures that brought her happiness. She was an avid reader who could often be found with a good book in hand, always eager to discover a new story. She loved challenging herself with puzzles, patiently fitting together each piece until the picture was complete. She enjoyed knitting and would often send knitted washcloths to all who needed them. Family and friends also knew that one of her favorite pastimes was gathering around the table for a spirited game of Triopoly, where laughter, conversation, and friendly competition created lasting memories.

Dorothy had a gentle spirit and a generous heart. She possessed a quiet resilience that carried her through life's joys and hardships with grace. She valued family deeply and treasured the time spent with those she loved. Her kindness was expressed not through grand gestures, but through her steady presence, thoughtful encouragement, and willingness to help whenever she could.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Blaine Riley Whitlatch; her parents, Irvin and Myrtle Beach; and all of her siblings: Buddy, Nick, Duke, Myrna, and Sketter.

Dorothy is lovingly remembered by her nephews, Nick Beach, John Lucas, and Jerry Lucas; her niece, Lauren Pollard-Stevenson; and many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by her love and friendship.

Though Dorothy's earthly journey has come to an end, the example she set through a life of faithful service, quiet compassion, and enduring love will continue to inspire those who knew her. She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever held in the hearts of her family and friends.

"Well done, good and faithful servant." — Matthew 25:23
