Dr. Charles Calvin Shackleton 86 of 109 Linkside Court Chapin died Sunday November 11 2012 at his residence. Born on October 5 1926 in Fall River MA he was the son of the late Joseph and Fannie Jackson Shackleton. Dr. Shackleton served in the Army Air Corps during WWII and was a member of the Episcopal church. In 1950 he received his Bachelor of Science degree from North Carolina State University and in 1954 he received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Georgia. Dr. Shackleton practiced veterinary medicine in Charlotte NC and the surrounding areas for over 54 years. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Betty Russey Shackleton; children and their spouses Sandra Shackleton and William Gilbert Shaver of Denton NC Carrie Shackleton and Benny Ray McGraw of Chapin SC Charles Calvin Shackleton II and Wendy Lyle Gainey Shackleton of Mooresville NC and Christine Fanny Shackleton of Charleston SC; 11 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sisters Ruth Danielson of Titusville FL Mae Charos of Somerset MA and Betty Reese of Naples Italy. He was predeceased by 3 sisters and 2 brothers. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday November 17 2012 at the Whitaker Funeral Home 939 Chapin Rd. Chapin SC by the Rev. Jim Nichols.
