Dr. Clovis Hiram Pierce, 91, of Kinards, died Saturday, September 21, 2024, at the Laurens County Hospice House, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on July 11, 1933, in Montgomery County, TN, he was a son of the late Augustus Bryan and Susie Belle Howard Pierce.

Dr. Pierce was a U.S. Army veteran and was station in Germany as a Army Physician.

He was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church, a devoted Christian always growing in his faith.

Dr. Pierce received his undergraduate degree and doctorate in medicine from Vanderbilt University and began what would become a life-long career in Gynecology and Obstetrics. He was a beloved doctor within his community and throughout South Carolina. He was dedicated to his patients, providing exceptional care and service. At the age of 85, Dr. Pierce retired proud of his career and his ability to have helped so many people.

He was active in giving back to his profession and was a member of the Royal College of Medicine, the American Board of OBGYN, and the American College of OBGYN.

Dr. Pierce enjoyed several hobbies as well. He was a competitive skeet shooter and was inducted into the Skeet Shooting Hall of Fame. He also enjoyed duck and dove hunting, especially with family. He enjoyed square dancing as well, especially as it was what led him to meet his soul mate, Mary Jo.

Dr. Pierce was a family man; family meant everything to him, and he was proud to provide for his family. He adored and was especially devoted to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He will be remembered as a faithful, loving, warm, nurturing, big-hearted man.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo DeVore Pierce; daughters, Dena P. Iusti (Jack) of Kinards, Julia P. Jerabek (Matthew) of Salem, SC, and Nancy P. Lamberson (Jeff) of Johns Island; sons, Michael D. Parducci of Bucks County, PA; William "Billy" Pierce (Lisa Jo) of Sarasota, FL; daughter-in-law, Dawn Lumpkin of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Bradley Pierce, Ashley Bauman, Pierce Lamberson, David Lamberson, Andrew Lamberson, Levi Pierce, Cody Pierce, Hannah Iusti, Braden Iusti, and Mary Beth Iusti Taylor; and numerous great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Kent Pierce; brothers, Glenn Pierce, Milford Pierce; and sisters, Geneva Pierce and Katherine Austin.

Graveside services will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at Rosemont Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Kathy Cinnamond and Rev. William Hightower.

Visitation was held on Thursday, September 26, 2024, from 5 to 7 pm at Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry.
