Dr. Lucille E. Wassman 87 of 2503 Henry Ave. Newberry SC died Thursday September 6 2007 at Springfield Place in Newberry.Dr. Wassman was born on Feb. 22 1920 in Cedar Lake IN a daughter of the late Fred and Emma Behrens Wassman.She received her bachelor and master degrees in Education from Indiana University and her Ed.D in Education from Columbia University. She taught in the elementary schools in Indiana and Illinois from 1942 until 1961; was an instructor at the National College of Education in Evanston IL from 1963 to 1967; Asst. Professor of Education at the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee from 1967 to 1971; the Executive Director of Lutheran Deaconess Association in Valparaiso IN from 1971 to 1975; Associate Professor of Education at Birmingham Southern College from 1975 to 1977; and was Associate Professor of Education at Newberry College from 1977 to 1985 where she also served as the Coordinator of Early Childhood/ Elementary Education. Dr. Wassman was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer where she had been involved in many programs and activities including teaching adult Sunday School Classes. She also taught Adult Sunday School Classes at White Oak Manor and the Lowman Home. She was very active in the American Association of University Women. She served several terms as the President of the Newberry Chapter and was the S.C. State President from 1990 to 1992 and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International.She is survived by four nieces Clarice "Maggie" Segert of St. John IN Marcella Reichert of Lowell IN Rosemary Hesemann of Moscow Mill MO and Ruth Stege of Varna IL and three nephews Rodger Teske of Beecher IL Clifford Bernhard of Lowell IN and Albert Seehausen of Grand Island FL. She was predeceased by six sisters Lillian Bernhard Linda Junge Helen Seehausen Margaret Seehausen Marie Grieving and Clara TeskeFuneral services were conducted at 2:00 PM Sunday September 9 at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer by the Rev. Marion Clark. Interment services were at 10:00 AM Tuesday September 18 2007 in the Graceland Cemetery Mausoleum in Valparaiso IN. by the Rev.
