Dr. Maeberta "Bert" Bobb, 82, of Rock Hill, died on Monday, July 3, 2023 at Park Pointe Village.

Born on April 15, 1941 in Newberry, she was a daughter of the late Carl Francis and Della Merchant Bobb.

Bert was a graduate of Newberry High School and received her bachelors degree from Winthrop (College) University. She continued her education and received a masters degree from University of Tennessee and later her doctorate degree from the University of Georgia.

Throughout her career, Bert worked as an educator, administrator and coach, working at the University of Tennessee, Coker College, and Winthrop University. She was a lifelong advocate and leader for women's athletics, she served as president of the South Carolina Association for Intercollegiate Athletics for Women, and in 2008, Bert was inducted into the Winthrop University Athletic Hall of Fame. She also received the President's Award and the Distinguished Alumni in Physical Education from Winthrop College, Southern Association for Physical Education of College Women Honor Award, and the SC Governor's Commission on Women. In 2018, Bert was honored to receive the Mary Mildred Sullivan Award. This award, the most highest honor to an alumna of Winthrop University, recognizes an alumna for selfless dedication of time, energy and talent in services to others.

She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Rock Hill. Bert loved her family deeply and was a grandmother to many of them.

She is survived by cousins, Karen & Mike Brehmer, their children, Neal (Kaylee), Lance (Kaitlyn), and Marylee Brehmer (Hunter Hill), and their grandchildren, Mia Kate, Linley, Garrett, and Jed Brehmer; Beth & Jimmy Folk, their children, Casey (Mike) Ruff and Jamie (Brent) Davis, and their grandchildren, Brady and Brandon Ruff, and Brynn Davis; Bart & Cindy Merchant, their children, Lucas Merchant and Nicole (Stephanie) Burchant and grandchild, Addison Burchant; Mike & Peggy Epps; and a host of cousins and special friends.

Graveside funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Leon Rawl at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 6, 2023 at Newberry Memorial Gardens, 15127 CR Koon Highway, Newberry, SC 29108. For those wishing to join services online, live streaming options are available by clicking the Watch Event Link on the Events section.

A memorial service will be held at 2:30 PM on Sunday, July 9, 2023 at Park Pointe Village Community Center, 3025 Chesbrough Blvd, Rock Hill, SC 29732.

Pallbearers will be Neal Brehmer, Lance Brehmer, Lucas Merchant, Jody Haltiwanger, Nicole Burchant, Marylee Brehmer, Hunter Hill, Brady Ruff, and Brandon Ruff.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the loving care given to Bert by her friends of Marston Circle, the staff of Willow Brook at Park Pointe Village and her Winthrop University family. Each of you shared a special bond with Bert and we will forever be grateful.
