Obituary

E. Guy Slice, Sr., 81, died Sunday, January 29, 2017 at his residence in Chapin. He was born on May 11, 1935 in Chapin, a son of the late Elbert Cyrus and Cora Frick Slice. Guy graduated from Chapin High School and retired from R. L. Bryan Company with 43 years of service as the Manager of the School Book Depository. He was a member of St. Jacob Lutheran Church, the Smilin' Swingers Square Dance Club, the Square Dancing Sams and a former member of the Exchange Club of Newberry. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ann Leopard Slice and sons, Elbert G. "Bert" Slice (KP) of Columbia and David P. "D.P." Slice (Pamela) of Chapin. Survivors also include his grandchildren, who affectionately called him "Papa", Katie S. Roush (Kyle), Jordan Slice-Metcalfe (Jeremy), Kristine Koesters (fiancée, Chris Culver), Capt. John Koesters (Jessica) and great-grandchildren, David Graham Koesters and Guy Douglas Dvorak Roush who is arriving soon. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his siblings, J.W. Slice, Mary Ester Metts, Louise Derrick and Irene Stoudemire. The family will be at his residence in Chapin. A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 Friday, February 3, 2017 in St. Jacob Lutheran Church Cemetery by the Rev. David Tholstrup. Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Smilin' Swingers Square Dance Club and the Square Dancing Sams. Memories and condolences may be sent to the family at www.whitakerfuneralhome.com.
