Eddie Dean Reep, Jr., 53, of Newberry died Tuesday December 7, 2021 at Lexington Medical Center.
Born on April 25, 1968, in Columbia, he is the son of Eddie Dean Reep, Sr. and the late Susan Hentz Reep.
Dean worked for many years as a foreman with Bonitz construction company until health issues led to the loss of his leg. Despite the challenge, he never let it slow him down and for a period of time, he was involved with wheelchair racing and qualified for the Paralympics in Greece.
He was friendly, outgoing and always upbeat. With much to talk about, Dean always loved hanging out by the barn with the guys through endless amounts of jokes and laughter. He loved his lab Baylee and spoiled her rotten. Dean enjoyed hunting, fishing, and getting outside to throw softballs. He was a good cook and was known to have quite an appetite, especially when it came to Wise's ribs.
Dean was an encourager. He mentored other amputees, helping them see a light at the end of the tunnel. He used his sense of humor and 'the force be with you' to keep the softball team's players and coaches upbeat and focused. And after the loss of his son, he was a supporter to other parents who experience such a loss. He never met a stranger and left a lasting impact on all those he met.
More than anything, Dean loved his family, and was always there for them. From Tuesday night pizza outings on the way to softball lessons to wearing tuxedos in California, if it was important to his family, Dean was there, actively participating and encouraging them on.
Dean is survived by his wife of eighteen years, Kacey Kneece Reep of Newberry; daughters, Calli Reep, Bethany Reep, and Anna Grace Reep; granddaughter, Grayson Michaela Church; siblings, Tammy Reep of Columbia, Kimberly Hendrix (Jason) of Batesburg-Leesville, and Heather Lucas (Scott) of Columbia; grandmother, Fran Hentz, "adopted daughter" Nicole McManus, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his mother, he was predeceased by a son, SSGT Michael Donovan Reep.
