Obituary

Eddy Gerald (Ed) Van Dyke, 81 years-old, of Chapin, South Carolina, died on October 23, 2025, in his home. He was born on August 7, 1944, in Fort Worth, Texas, to the late Charles Harold Van Dyke and the late Lola Mozella Noble Van Dyke. He had one sibling, the late Kay Murphy.

Eddy grew up on the same street as and then was married to Glinda Joyce Van Dyke for 60 years. Together, they have two surviving children, Kirk Alan Van Dyke, PhD and Alison Len Van Dyke, MD, PhD, MPA. In addition to his wife and two children, Eddy is survived by his nephews (Scott Murphy, Bryan Murphy, and Michael Murphey) and cousins (Karen Jenkins and Janet Hickson).

Eddy was an Eagle Scout and was a proud alumnus of Texas Christian University (TCU) where he obtained a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in mathematics. During his notable career, Eddy was the President of True Temper Sports, which manufactures golf club shafts, bicycle frames, tennis racket frames, and other sporting goods. He served as the Chairman of the Board of Directors for the National Golf Foundation. Through his work, Eddy experienced extensive travel around the globe. Dating back to his childhood, Eddy was enthusiastic about antique car restoration, golfing, and experiencing adventures on his boat. He was happiest when watching the sunset from his boat with jazz playing in the background.

Over thirty years ago, Eddy and Glinda moved to Chapin, South Carolina from Memphis, Tennessee. Since then, they have been committed members of Saint Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church in Chapin.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at Saint Francis of Assisi Episcopal Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations and memorials be made to any charity of one's choice.
