Edna "Jimmie" Boland Parnell Sutphin, 88, of Newberry died Saturday, November 24, 2018, at Palmetto Baptist in Columbia.
Born on March 15, 1930 in Williston, SC, she was a daughter of the late Herman and Gladys Reese Boland. She was retired from BC Moore.
Mrs. Sutphin was a member of Glenn St. Baptist Church where she belonged to the Reapers Sunday Class. She belonged to the Newberry Branch of the Eastern Star and was a former member of the Moose Lodge.
She was a giving lady who never met a stranger. Within the community, she was known as Grannie Good Witch and Mrs. Santa. Edna was artistically creative in raising seven children and was proud to be the mother and wife of eight veterans. Her family and all who knew her will miss her and will always treasure her wonderful smile.
She is survived by her husband, Alton Sutphin; children, Pat Parnell-Cagle (Will) of West Columbia, David Parnell (Carol) of Prosperity, Bill Parnell of Inman, Ernie Parnell (Lanette) of Ripley, OH, Vera Duffie (Mike) and Gladys Sligh (Bobby) all of Newberry; 18 grandchildren numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Joy Parnell of South Pittsburg, TN.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased a son, Clifton Parnell, siblings, Joe Newton, Audrey Glenn, Vera Roukos and Herman Boland.
Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, November 27 at 2:00 PM at the Glenn St. Baptist Church by the Rev. Michael Whitesides and the Rev. Jimmy Counts. Interment will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
The family will be at the residences of Vera and Mike Duffie, 285 Fish Pond Road, Newberry and Gladys and Bobby Sligh, 276 Fish Pond Road, Newberry and will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday at the Whitaker Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Johnny Glenn, Howard Boland, Larry Wearn, Chris Wearn, Kelsey Parnell, Travis Parnell, Derrick Parnell, Justin Parnell, Jeremy Parnell, Josh Parnell, Michael Duffie, Mark Duffie, and Bryan Sligh.
The family suggests memorials be made to Glenn Street Baptist Church, 300 Glenn St. Newberry, SC 29108.
