Elbert Harley Mosteller 74 of Chapin died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on Sunday September 12 2010. Elbert known by his family as Pa was born on August 27 1936 in Ellijay NC a son of the late Arthur and Lena Mosteller. Upon graduation from Greer High School he joined the US Air Force and served for four years. He was employed as a supervisor for AT&T and worked there for 30 years until his retirement at age 55. Elbert was born and raised in the mountains and he always felt most at home in them whether planting in his garden or picking the fresh apples and peaches he grew in his orchards. Elbert was known by family and friends as the person who could fix just about anything and he enjoyed hard work and all the fruits that came from it. He met and married the love of his life Della Guffie Mosteller and they just recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Besides his wife Della he is survived by his children Teresa Hooker of Newberry Randy Mosteller of Chapin David (Sherry) Mosteller of Slater and Tammy (Shane) Swanson of Mt. Pleasant; his grandchildren who were the joy of his life Mandy and Katie Hooker Mark and Shawn Mosteller Ashton Mosteller and Zachary and Adam Swanson; and his sisters Annie Moss of Columbus NC Dolly Lynn of Greer Molly (Jimmy) Gosnell of Greenville and Frances Stewart of Travelers Rest; and sister-in-law Peggy Mosteller of Greer. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by brothers Bob Mosteller Roy Mosteller and Bergin Mosteller; and brother-in-law Leroy Moss. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday by Rev. David Williams at the Whitaker Funeral Home Chapel in Newberry. Interment was at Newberry Memorial Gardens. Family and friends were invited back to the home of Randy Mosteller 170 Killian Point Circle Chapin after the interment service. Visitation was from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at the Whitaker Funeral Home in Chapin. The family suggests that memorials be made to The Preston Robert Tisch Brain Tumor Center at Duke DUMC Box 3624 Durham NC 27710. Whitaker Funeral Home Chapin is assisting the family.
