Obituary

Eldred B. Amick, 97, of Prosperity, died Monday, January 24, 2022 at the Heritage at Lowman. Born November 16, 1924, he was the son of the late Seber Bryan and Lois Frick Amick. A lifelong resident of South Carolina, Mr. Amick graduated from Gilbert High School. Shortly thereafter, he was drafted to serve in the Army and like other members of the Greatest Generation, went off to fight in World War II. After the war he married his sweetheart, Evelyn Wilson Amick and they were married for 72 years until her death in 2019. Mr. Amick retired after many years as a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service. He was an active member of Bachman Chapel Lutheran Church, where he served in various capacities, including teaching Sunday school and chairing the Cemetery Committee. He was a charter member of Mid Carolina Country Club and was a member of the Newberry Shrine Club and the Prosperity Masonic Lodge #115 AFM. Mr. Amick was a positive, good soul and found the most enjoyment in simple things like time with family, eating great food, fishing, traveling, and golf. He and his wife enjoyed annual cruises well into their retirement years and spending time at their beach house in Edisto. He is survived by a son, Bryan Amick (JoAnn) of Prosperity; a grandson, Ashley Amick (Robin) of Chapin; great-grandchildren Courtney Altman (Elliott) of Chapin and A.J. Amick (Kaitlyn) of Simpsonville; and sisters, Dorothy Amick Strickland of Chapin and Roberta Bryan of Atlanta, GA. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Miriam Amick Kirkpatrick. Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 29, 2022 at 2 PM at Bachman Chapel Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Floyd Sides. Burial with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. Out of an abundance of caution due to the current Covid situation and desire to limit potential spread to those who are more vulnerable, a public visitation will not be held. Memorials may be made to the Bachman Chapel Bereavement Fund. Memories and condolences may be shared here on his Tribute Wall. Whitaker Funeral Home is honored to assist the family.
