Eliza "Lollie" McCrackin Parr, 93 years old, ended her journey Tuesday, February 9, 2021 at her home surrounded by her family. She was a COVID-19 survivor.
She was born on November 8, 1927, the sixth and youngest child of Joseph Thaddeus "Thad" and Margaret Matthews McCrackin. She was the last surviving member of her birth family.
Eliza was a graduate of Newberry College and was one of the first women to play collegiate golf.
She married William W. "T" Parr, a marriage that spanned 49 years until his death in 2000. From that union came three children, 5 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Throughout her lifetime, she remained a sports enthusiast who clearly appreciated and enjoyed the out of doors life. She participated in dove shoots, sometimes leading the field with killing more doves than the men. She enjoyed fishing, especially in the pond behind her house, and she loved dogs. Her Belle was a favorite. "Lollie" as she was known by many, enjoyed her walks around town with Belle and adored having Belle be her side kick sitting in the front seat of her Karman Ghia convertible as they cruised the streets together.
She worked for Newberry Saluda Regional Library where she drove the Bookmobile from 1973 through 1993. She made many friends throughout Newberry and Saluda Counties while introducing many young people to reading.
Eliza was a member of the Newberry ARP Church and the Newberry Country Club and she greatly enjoyed serving as an Ambassador and welcoming people to the Newberry Opera House.
Her survivors include her children, Mary Margaret and Robert "Bob" Seim of Suwanee, GA, Evelyn and Stephen Cameron of Milford, NJ, and William W. "Bill" and Mary Parr of Newberry; grandchildren, Mary Helen Sperber, Eliza Den Bleyker, Matthew Cameron, Leah Soderquist, and Margaret Parr Cameron; and 5 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her siblings, Ed, Thad, and Tom McCrackin, Evelyn Brooks, and Caroline Workman Henderson.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 9:30 AM Thursday February 11, 2021 in Rosemont Cemetery conducted by the Rev. Dr. Tim Erskine and the Rev. Seth Yi. The service will be live streamed. Please go to the funeral home website for viewing instructions.
