Obituary

Elizabeth "Bette" Moseley, 88, of Newberry, died Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at Saluda Nursing Center. Born on June 14, 1929 in Newberry as the elder of the first set of twins born in Newberry Hospital, she was a daughter of the late Joseph "Jack" and Caroline Jones Hove. Bette was a lifelong member of Central United Methodist Church where she served as choir director for fifteen years. She graduated from Mary Washington College in Virginia with a degree in Music Education. She first taught band at Randolph Henry High School in Charlotte Court House, VA where she met her husband. She worked many years at Silverstreet School and Newberry Academy as a band director. Her love of music and the many people she taught will be her enduring legacy. In addition to her music, Bette was a county-wide leader for the Newberry Girl Scouts, as well as a camp director at Camp Holly Springs in Lynches Woods Park. Mrs. Moseley taught ballroom dancing and was a volunteer at the Newberry Opera House. She was a member of a Thursday Night Bridge Club for over 50 years and enjoyed her close friendships with the other members and their families. In her later years, she was a huge fan of The Letterman. She and her twin sister traveled all over the United States to attend their concerts. She is survived by her identical twin sister, Barbara "Bobbe" Miller of Oak Island, NC, a younger sister, Lennis Blanton Fuller (P.K.) of Charlotte, NC., her children, Elizabeth "Bette" Davis (John) of Amelia Island, FL, Cathey Moseley Force (David) and M. Merritt Moseley, III (Ann), all of Newberry; grandchildren, Hove Force Cook (Freddie), Ashley Force Bishop (Chris) all of Newberry, L. Ian Davis (Lindsey) of Jacksonville, FL, Sarah Elizabeth Davis Salama (David) of Colorado Springs, Joshua Merritt Moseley of Spartanburg, Sarah Ann Moseley of Greenville, and William Maurice Moseley of Spartanburg; great-grandchildren, Taylor Miller, Mackenzie Amick and Kalynne Amick; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Maurice Merritt Moseley, Jr. The family will be at the home. Services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Central United Methodist Church by Rev. Karen Radcliffe. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Pall Bearers will be Michael Blanton, Wayne Blanton, Brett Miller, Dean Miller, Derek Sligh and Fred Caudill. Honorary pallbearers will be former band students and the Thursday Night Bridge Club. The family would like to thank the staff at Saluda Nursing Center in Saluda, SC for the excellent care they gave Bette in her final days and Joyce Barrow for serving as her Stephen Minister.
