Elizabeth Blackwell Johnson 87 devoted wife of the late Pope Duncan Johnson Jr. died peacefully in her sleep Sunday October 23 2005 at the Newberry County Memorial Hospital.Mother of three grandmother of nine and great grandmother of 10 she lived a selfless life devoted to the love and well being of her family who loved her dearly in return. Her life was a shining example of all that a wife homemaker and mother should be.Mrs. Johnson was born in Lincolnton GA a daughter of the late Gordon and Sarah Tiller Blackwell. She lived in Newberry for 70 years and leaves many friends who will remember her humor kindness and sweet nature. She was a lifelong Baptist and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Newberry.Mrs. Johnson is survived by her sons and daughter and their spouses Elizabeth J. and Robert Kohn Pope D. and Marian H. Johnson III and Gordon and Anne Johnson; her sister-in-law Edna Kirkegard and her nine grandchildren Renee' Kohn Alan Kohn Eleanor Brown Stephanie Blakeman Duncan Johnson IV James Johnson Mary Shepherd Laurie Cagle and Blackwell Johnson; and her loving great-grandchildren.Memorial services were conducted at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday October 25 2005 at the First Baptist Church of Newberry S.C. by the Rev. Dr. Kenneth Harmon.The family did receive friends at Mrs. Johnson's home 2207 Murray St. Newberry from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.
