Obituary

Elizabeth ODell Sligh 87 of 1462 Glenn St. Extension widow of George J. Sligh Jr. died Tuesday December 6 2011 at her residence. She was born in Union County on August 22 1924 a daughter of the late Edgar Setzler Boggy ODell and Hattie Riggs ODell Ferguson. Mrs. Slighs primary focus was being a loving wife and mother. She was a rainbow on a cloudy morning who taught her family how to love and love unconditionally. She later worked as a buyer and sales person for The Fashion. She was also an artist who enjoyed painting flowers in her later years. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church where she taught childrens Sunday School classes for years and enjoyed serving as a Bible School teacher. She was a former member of the Eastern Star and chapter chair person of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. She is survived by three daughters and their husbands Karey Judith Sligh Wells and William C. Wells of Chester Melinda Sue Sligh Kerns of Newberry George-Jinna Sligh Crouch and Glenn N. Crouch of Saluda; brother Billy ODell of Newberry; grandchildren Chip Caldwell of Newberry Chris Caldwell of Lancaster Charlie Caldwell of Seattle WA Jason Caldwell of Rock Hill Joshua Crouch and Rebekah Crouch both of Saluda and Jennica Kalbaugh of Frederick MD; great-grandchildren Chase Caldwell Cade Caldwell Kathrynne Elizabeth Caldwell Gracyn Caldwell Tillman Caldwell Charleigh Caldwell Jakob Sligh Caldwell Lily Greene Travis Greene and Sawyer Kalbaugh. She was predeceased by grandson Frank Jean-Marie Kerns II Chuck sisters Frances Bannister and Martha Prather; brothers Buck ODell Thomas ODell Rudolph Ferguson and son-in-law Gus Caldwell. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 PM Friday at the Whitaker Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Wayne Terry Rev. Jeff ODell and Chaplain James Cuttino Jr. Interment did follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation was from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday at the Whitaker Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Chip Caldwell Chris Caldwell Charlie Caldwell Jason Caldwell Joshua Crouch Glenn Crouch and Bill Wells. Honorary pallbearer will be Frank Kerns.
