Elizabeth Reighley DeHart 93 of Newberry died Saturday April 26 2014 at White Oak Manor. Born on Oct. 14 1920 in Newberry County she was the daughter of the late David Alan and Willie Mae Shannon Reighley. Mrs. DeHart was a graduate of the Newberry High School Class of 1940. She retired after 19 years as Cottage Parent from the Whitten Center and later volunteered in their Grandparent Program. She was an active member of Central United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Lucy Epps Sunday School Class. Mrs. DeHart loved her yard work especially her flowers. She enjoyed regular adventures to the woods and the creeks to gather stones and drift wood to make her garden beds. If Mrs. DeHart had so much as a spoon of dirt she had something beautiful growing in that dirt. She valued taking care of her family. She served as Den Mother for the Cub Scouts and Grade Parent in the schools. She kept a loving home and enjoyed cooking for family and friends. She was a treasured mother grandmother and great-grandmother. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law Beverly D. and Johnnie Pitts of Silverstreet; sons and daughter-in-law Larry B. and Margaret DeHart of Pomaria and Bobby C. and Debra Matthews DeHart of Newberry; brother Meredith Med Cotton (Betty) Reighley of Newberry; grandchildren Denise Pitts of Newberry Johnny Pitts Jr. and Bridget (Michael) Bouknight all of Silverstreet Libby (Shane) Wessinger of Chapin Susannah Price of Charleston and Brittany (Chuck) Bishop of Newberry; great-grandchildren Taylor Bouknight Kruz Bouknight Chase Wessinger Luke Wessinger and Piper Bishop; sister-in-law Jean Reighley; nieces and nephews; and dear devoted friends Carolyn Sanders Mildred Sligh and Margie Matthews. She was predeceased by her husband Clarence B. DeHart; sisters Brunelle Hall and Sara Reighley Morris and brother Alan Reighley. Funeral services were conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Whitaker Funeral Home by the Rev. Karen Radcliffe Rev. Thomas Byrd and Rev. Eddie Bledsoe. Interment was in Newberry Memorial Gardens. The family was at the home of Beverly and Johnnie Pitts 4902 Island Ford Rd Silverstreet and did receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday at Whitaker Funeral Home Newberry. Pallbearers were Michael Bouknight Shane Wessinger Chuck Bishop Johnny Pitts Jr. Danny Reighley Vernon DeHart Steve Bailey Bobby Anderson Scott Moseley and Ricky Long. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Ezell Bible Class at Central United Methodist Church.
