Elsie Winifred Mary Feltner, 94 of Chapin, died on March 2, 2021 at Prisma Richland Hospital with loved ones by her side.
Born on August 14, 1926 in Newbury, England (Berkshire County), she was the daughter of Arthur George Annetts and Rose Emma Partridge Annetts.
Elsie grew up in England and when she was 13 years old WWII was declared. Following her graduation from High School, she worked for the British Navy and met her husband, Howard at one of the base dances often attended by the American soldiers. Howard was stationed in Belgium but happened to attend the dance one night when Elsie was there. Over the years "Mom" has told us many stories of her home being in the path of the American Airforce Base. Many nights the family peeked through the blackout curtains to see the planes coming in.
She came to the US as a War Bride in 1945, settled in St. Petersburg, Fla and spent many years there until the death of her 2nd husband, Lynn Feltner. At that time, she moved to South Carolina to be closer to her son, Richard and his family. Her family was her greatest joy and she loved spending quality time with them all.
Elsie loved raising orchids and African Violets. She even grew all of the orchids for her son and daughter in law's wedding. Like her mother, she was an excellent knitter. She has made hundreds of afghans, hats, booties, baby blankets, scarves and sweaters over the years and has given most of them away. She was an avid reader and was reading 3-4 romance novels a week unless she was knitting. She loved to watch birds come to her multiple birdfeeders and hummingbirds held a special place in her heart. Her beloved cat, Bootsie now resides with her son and daughter in law.
Elsie is survived by her son, The Reverend Richard (Dick) Webber and his wife Jeannie; grandchildren, Jeremy Webber (Tabatha), Melissa Webber Richardson (Tyler); and great grandchildren, Jacob Webber, Grayson Webber and Jonah Richardson. Elsie also has nieces and nephews whom she has loved and kept up with over the years, even though they all live a distance away.
She was predeceased by two of her children, Brenda Lynn Webber and John James Webber; brother and sisters, Arthur William Henry Annetts, Daisy May Hawkins, Dorothy Lillian Joan Moodispagh.
A private family service will be conducted by the Rev. Ralph Hill and the Rev. Joanna Gragg at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 10, 2021. Livestreaming options are available by clicking the Watch Event Link in the Events section.
