Emory Hunter Hipp 78 of 329 Stoney Hill Road Prosperity died Friday January 6 2012 at the Saluda Nursing Center. Mr. Hipp was born on July 1 1933 in the Stoney Hill community of Prosperity and was a son of the late Raymond and Elizabeth Betsy Hunter Hipp. He retired as an insurance agent. He was a lifelong member of Zion United Methodist Church where he was a member of the John Wesley Sunday School Class and the Zion Mens Club. He was a charter member of the Mid-Carolina Country Club and the Mid-Carolina Lions Club. He was an enthusiastic golfer and enjoyed woodworking. He will be remembered as a great man that always showed compassion to his family and others especially his son Steven. Mr. Hipp is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law Douglas E. (Pamela) Hipp Mark A. (Melanie) Hipp both of Prosperity Steven R. Hipp of Saluda and CDR U.S. Navy Michael L. (Julie) Hipp of Irmo; grandchildren Nicholas Hipp (fianc Kim Boyd) Lindsay (Nathan) Wicker Brandon Shaw (fianc Jennifer Lynn Crispin) Daniel Shaw Nathan Hipp and Mackenzie Hipp; sisters Mable (Harold) Amick of Columbia and Shirley Ann (Billy) Bowers of Aiken; brothers George Elbert (Minnie) Hipp of Aiken and Ray (Janice) Hipp of Lexington. He was predeceased by his wife Shirley Hawkins Hipp. Funeral services were conducted at 3:00 P.M. Sunday January 8 2012 at Zion United Methodist Church by the Rev. Lowry T. Drennen. Interment was in the church cemetery. The family did receive friends Sunday at Zion United Methodist Church beginning at 1:00 P.M.. Pallbearers were members of the Zion UMC Mens Club. Honorary pallbearers were the members of the Mid-Carolina Lions Club and members of the John Wesley Sunday School Class at Zion UMC.
