Obituary

Esther Hendrix Davenport 91 of Newberry widow of Henley L. Davenport died Saturday January 31 2015 at Hospice House of Laurens. Visitation will be from 12:30 PM until 2:30 PM on Tuesday February 3 at Newberry ARP Church. Funeral services will be at 3:00 PM Tuesday at the Church. Interment will follow in Rosemont Cemetery. Born on June 25 1923 in Newberry County she was a daughter of the late Malcolm J. and Effie Bishop Hendrix. Mrs. Davenport taught ceramics for the Newberry Recreation Department for a number of years and had served as a Past President of the S.C. State Ceramics Association. She was a dedicated member of Newberry ARP Church where she was also a member of the Women of the Church and belonged to the Morning Circle and to the Elizabeth Shealy Sunday School Class. She had also previously served as a Sabbath School Teacher She enjoyed singing with the RSVP singers and loved sharing events with the Over 55. But most significant about Mrs. Davenport was how she demonstrated her faith to her Lord. She was a saint. She is survived by her sons and spouse; Jerry and Kathy Davenport and Nick Davenport all of Newberry; nine grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by a daughter-in-law Mary Davis Davenport; her sister Marguerite Krel;l and brothers Bernard Winston Malcolm J. and Eldridge Hendrix. Pallbearers will be Walter Davenport James Hendrix Keith Hendrix Robert Renwick James Hill Gene Wicker Jean Williamson and Richard Lominack. Honorary pallbearers will be Clyde Brown Yoder Bedenbaugh Billy Rikard Bill Parr Sunie Mills Lynette Bobb Dr. Corey Hunt C. J. Bishop Mary Braswell Elizabeth Hayes Evelyn Maw members of the Elizabeth Shealy Sunday School Class and members of the Friendship Sunday School Class.
