Eunice Hamby Long, 91, of Newberry died Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at Lexington Medical Center.
Born on February 21, 1925 in Simpsonville, she was a daughter of the late Willie "Will" A. Hamby and Mamie Hill Hamby.
Mrs. Long was a life member of Glenn Street Baptist Church where she served as communion chairperson for over 20 years. She treasured her Bible and cherished the opportunity to read it through many times. Cooking was a true enjoyment for her and for others who had opportunity to enjoy her dishes. She was especially known for her country fried steak and fried apple pies.
She is survived by her daughters, Susan Long Hayes of Newberry and Kathy Long Staub (Errold) of Lexington; sister, Vernice H. Fuller (George) of Greensboro, NC; brother, Bobby Ray Hamby (Joy) of Newberry; grandchildren Angela H. Bibb (Deron) of E-Town, KY, Mandy Waites (Jeff) of Newberry, Erik C. Staub and Jennifer C. Staub both of Lexington; and great grandchildren, Alex Bibb, Jack Bibb, Ryan Bibb, Hayes Waites, Chandler Waites, and Adelayde and Niko. She was predeceased by her siblings, Carl Hamby, Claude Hamby, Charles Hamby, Roberta Hamby, Polly Mills, and Willie Cooper. Her love of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren will always be remembered and treasured.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday August 22, 2016 at Glenn Street Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Mike Whitesides and the Rev. Bryan Rainwater. Interment will be in Newberry Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be prior to the service on Monday, from 9:30 until 10:30 AM in the church social hall.
