Evelyn Dickert Davis, a native of Newberry South Carolina and a resident of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away at her home on a Saturday morning, December 9th, at the age of 96. Evelyn was born January 6th, 1927, in Newberry, South Carolina, to late Forrest Walter Dickert and the late Ruth Senn Dickert. She was married to the late Mr. Heyward Sligh Davis.

Evelyn, was a straight A student and class president during high school. She worked as a Certified Professional Secretary at Delmar Studio's for the VP for many years. She was active in the Hickory Grove United Methodist Church and worked in the office after retirement. She was an exceptional piano player who accompanied the Methodists Men's Choir. She presided over many election years as the Democratic Judge at her Voting Precinct in Charlotte. Evelyn was a formidable opponent, watching and competing against her dear friend Patty Marks at Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune each evening, also she was an outstanding Bridge player with many groups around the Charlotte area.

Evelyn is survived by her three sons, Walter Davis (Rebecca), Russel Davis (Deanna) and Paul Davis; her grandchildren, Rachel Crane (Heath), Henry Davis (Katie), Jackie Latham (Austin) and Joe Karam (Lacy). She is also survived by her nine great grandchildren, Hannah and Macy Crane, Magdalene and Porter Davis, Jace, Loftin and Olivia Karam, Gracie and Carlie Latham.

A special thanks to the team of care givers at Synergy that helped her remain at home. Also neighbor Mae Davis and family who took it upon herself to help Mom every day in so many ways.

Funeral services for Evelyn will be held both in Charlotte, NC and in Newberry, SC.

Charlotte Services will be held at 2PM, Friday, December 15, 2023 at Hickory Grove United Methodist Church, 6401 Hickory Grove Road, Charlotte, NC 28215. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation following the service.  Services will be livestreamed on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/@hickorygroveumc-charlotten6797 or on Facebook at Hickory Grove UMC

Newberry Services will be held 2PM, Saturday, December 16, 2023 at Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry Chapel, 1704 College Street, Newberry, SC 29108. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation from 1PM until 1:45PM prior to the service.

Interment will follow in the Rosemont Cemetery in Newberry, SC.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to Hickory Grove United Methodist Church or Loaves and Fishes/Friendship Trays, Charlotte.
