Evelyne Gibson Bishop 84 widow of Cecil Irving Bishop of Kinards SC died Thursday May 10 2012 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home after a brief illness. Visitation was held on Saturday May 12 2012 from 2:00 to 2:45 P.M. at Whitaker Funeral Home 1704 College St. Newberry SC. Funeral services did follow at 3:00 P.M. in the Whitaker Funeral Home Chapel conducted by Rev. Beth Drennen and Rev. Jimmy Counts. Burial did follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Born in Newberry County Mrs. Bishop was the daughter of the late Ernest and Sula Hipp Gibson. She was a retired employee of the S.C. Employment Security Commission and a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church. She also worked a number of years with Laurens County District 56 school system. The youngest of 6 children Mrs. Bishop was predeceased by her 4 sisters; Henrietta Warren Sara Ruth Baker Varie Kibler and Ernestine Riddle as well as her brother Billy Gibson. Survivors include her daughter Debbie B. Stuart and son-in-law Mark Stuart of Spartanburg SC and two granddaughters Heather Stuart Abernathy of Norfolk Va. and Courtney B. Stuart of Columbia SC. A devoted wife and mother Mrs. Bishop had recently moved to Spartanburg SC to be closer to her family and enjoyed new adventures with close friends in her retirement community.
