Obituary

Everett Leo Lake died Friday August 26 2011 at the age of 92. Funeral services were conducted at 4:00 PM Monday at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church by the Rev. Fred Suhr. Burial was in the church cemetery. Visitation was from 6:00 to 7:30 PM Sunday at Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry. Everett was born August 5 1919 in Saluda County a son of the late Frank Stilwell and Colie Eva Lindler Lake. He was a 1940 graduate of Berry College in Rome Georgia. Everett was a World War II veteran serving in the Army Air Force as an army airways communication system operator. Everett retired from U.S.D.A. after 32 years of service. He was a member of American Legion Post #34 a charter member of the Little Mountain Ruritan Club and a charter member of the Interfaith Community Service. He also served as a volunteer of the American Red Cross. Everett was very active in his church Holy Trinity Lutheran where he served on the Church Council. He taught Sunday School for many years and was a life member of the Lutheran Men. Everett was a loving father and Papa. He is survived by his son Frank (Lin) Lake of Prosperity; daughter Mary Lynn (Tony) Watson of Edgefield; grandchildren Amanda (Jon) Watson Wright Natalie Watson Carter and Trevor Lake; and sister Lila Hawkins. He was predeceased by his wife of 56 years Satira Lindler Lake; his brothers Floyd Franklin and Joe Lake and sister Myrtle Shealy. The family wishes to thank the staff of Generations of Chapin and Harmony Hospice for the loving care provided to Everett. Pallbearers will be Carter Lake Trevor Lake Joey Lake Edward Epting James Franklin Shealy Donald Berley Donald Lake Robert Wicker and Carlton Bowers.
