Obituary

Faye Langford Long, 89, of Prosperity, SC, died July 17, 2025, at J.F. Hawkins Nursing Home. Faye was born August 26, 1935, to the late James Marion & Frances Elizabeth "Lizzie" Richardson Langford. She grew up in the Jolly Street and St. Paul's Church community of Newberry County. She is a graduate of Pomaria High School.

In 1957, she married the late James Frank Long. Together, they raised a strong farm family in Stoney Hill. Over the years, the farm was comprised of a commercial beef cattle enterprise, a farrow-to-finish hog operation, an Appaloosa horse breeding program and various field crops and hay. An active partner in the farming operation, she taught her children the value of dedication, hard work and perseverance. Her tasks ranged from care and feeding of the stock to farm record keeping.

An active member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Mrs. Long served in many capacities over the years, such as Sunday School Teacher, Vacation Bible School Teacher and various church committees. In addition, she was involved with the Stoney Hill Community Center, working at events such as ballgames and barbecues.

Mrs. Long is survived by two daughters, Elaine Long Bailey (Mark) and Lydia Long Merchant (David). Her family was the light of her life, and she was very proud of her grandchildren, Phillip Trotter, II (Kendall) and Ingrid Cassada (Justin). In 2020, she welcomed her first great grandchild, Andrew Frank Cassada. Andrew is now joined by additional great grandchildren, Aiden Levi Cassada and Nancy Faye Trotter. Mrs. Long is also survived by one sister, Lillie Langford Grant. She also has special nieces and nephews Merrill Grant, Pamela Wilson, Nathalie Shillinglaw, David Hentz and Cathy Meetze.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, July 20, at 4:00 PM, at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Prosperity, SC.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
