Obituary

Floy Surena Harmon Richardson 95 of White Rock SC died Monday January 30 2012 at Oakleaf Assisted Living in Lexington SC. Mrs. Richardson was born on January 14 1917 in Gilbert the daughter of the late Earl E. and Lottie Keisler Harmon. She was married to the late Rev. Clarence L. Richardson Sr. for 73 years. She attended Columbia College. She was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Irmo and a lifetime member of Women of the ELCA. She was active in her community as a member of Home Demonstration Club of St. Phillips and as one of the first volunteers with Lutheran Hospice while living at the Heritage at Lowman. Mrs. Richardson was a devoted wife and mother. As a seamstress she received honorable mention in a national sewing competition. She enjoyed gardening cooking and quilting. She sang in church choirs and in the Chapin Chirpers and saw her love of music blossom through her children and grandchildren. Mrs. Richardson is survived by daughters Martha Ann Richardson of White Rock and Julia Richardson Parker of Gettysburg PA; sons Clarence L. Richardson Jr. and wife Alice of Lexington and Joseph P. Richardson of Rockville MD; five grandchildren Wendi (Jeff Butler) Jennifer (Michael Harley) Spence (Tiffany) Paul and Alexander; and seven great grandchildren. In addition to her husband and parents she was predeceased by her brothers Claudieth and Newton Harmon. Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 PM Friday at St. Johns Lutheran Church Irmo by Rev. Herman R. Yoos Bishop of the SC Synod Rev. Douglas Graul Pastor of St. Johns Lutheran Church and Rev. Vickie Powell Chaplain of Lutheran Hospice Midlands. Burial did follow in the church cemetery. Visitation was from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday February 2 at Whitaker Funeral Home Chapin. Pallbearers were grandsons great-grandsons and nephews.
