Fred A. Shealy 91 of 700 Haltiwanger Rd. Chapin died Monday February 9 2015 at his residence. Born on August 30 1923 in Chapin he was the son of the late Gary H. and Lottie Lindler Shealy. Mr. Shealy was a World War II Army veteran served with the 1st Platoon E Company 2nd Battalion 71st Infantry Regiment of the 44th Infantry Division and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Among his awards and decorations are the American Campaign Medal Europe-Africa-Middle East Campaign Medal with two Bronze Service Stars Purple Heart Medal Good Conduct Medal World War II Victory Medal and Combat Infantry Badge. He was a member of the VFW Post 8069. Following his military service he worked in construction and was a retired carpenter. Mr. Shealy was a member of St. Jacobs Lutheran Church where he had served on the church council and the property committee and was an honorary member of the Lutheran Men. He is survived by his wife of almost 53 years Minnie Lee Chapman Shealy; a daughter and son-in-law Judy and Donald R. Turner of Chapin; a brother David E. Shealy of Chapin; grandsons Chris G. Turner and Andrew B. Turner; and great-grandchildren Caroline and Duncan Turner. He was predeceased by sisters Marie S. Bowers Madeline S. Ewonishon and Louellen Hawkins and a brother Carl C. Shealy. Funeral services will be held on Friday February 13 2015 at 2:00 PM at St. Jacobs Lutheran Church by Rev. Kevin Powers. Interment with military honors will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service starting at 1:00 PM at the church.
