Fred Friend OMara 72 died peacefully at home in Silverstreet SC on Monday October 8 2012 after a long courageous battle with cancer. Visitation did take place at Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry SC on Thursday October 11 2012 from 6:00pm until 8:00pm. A funeral service were held at Central United Methodist Church in Newberry SC at 11:00am on Friday October 12 2012. Fred was born on May 31 1940 in Niagara Falls NY to the late Mr. and Mrs. Fred Bates OMara and graduated from Denison University. He worked for Union Carbide until he retired and moved to Silverstreet in 1991. Fred is survived by his wife Frances Bedenbaugh OMara; four children Peggy OMara of Tulsa OK; Kelly Wiseman (John) of Greenwood SC; Michael OMara (Holly) of Montgomery AL and Katy Holbrook (Todd) of Alpharetta GA; the seven grandchildren he cherished and adored: Jack and Anna Wiseman; Reagan Riley and Reese OMara; and Lauren and Colin Holbrook; and his sister Mary Ann Rybak (Walt) of Toano VA. Since Fred had such a love for animals the family suggests memorials can be made to the Newberry County Humane Society P. O. Box 485 Newberry SC 29108.
