Fred James "Jimmy" Weir, III of Newberry, age 68, passed away Monday, September 5, 2022 at Prisma Health Richland Hospital in Columbia, SC.

He was born March 14, 1954 in Newberry, a son of Mary Lou Anderson Weir and the late Fred J. "Bubba" Weir, Jr. He has been married for 46 years to Ginger Pitts Weir.

Jimmy graduated from Clemson University with a degree in Forestry. His career included various roles in the forestry industry, but he especially enjoyed running logging trucks. He carried with him through his life a love for and extensive knowledge of trees. He also had a creative side, taking items that others might consider "junk" and giving them new life as furniture, furnishings, and gifts for family and friends. He will always be remembered for his love of the outdoors, his family, and his friends.

Fred was a longtime member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer.

He is survived by his mother, Mary Lou Weir; his wife, Ginger Pitts Weir; son, Fred James "Jamie" Weir IV; daughter, Laurel Weir Keen (Chuck), and his grandson, Levi Keen, who was the light of his world. He is also survived by his brothers, Bobby Weir (Julie) and Tommy Weir (Beth); brother-in-law, Tony Pitts (Nancy); and many nieces and nephews who adored him.

He was predeceased by his father, Fred Weir Jr.

Graveside services will be held by the Rev. Matthew Titus at Newberry Memorial Gardens on Thursday, September 8, 2022 at 10:00 AM. Visitation will follow at the graveside.

Pallbearers will be Jamie Weir, Chuck Keen, Tony Roberts, Bobby DeHart, Curtis Dominick, and David Warren.

The family extends special appreciation to the Newberry Emergency Medical System staff and the doctors and nurses at Richland Heart Hospital.

Memorials are suggested to the Humane Society of Newberry or the Shriner's Hospital.
