Fritz Waidner who died Friday July 25 2014 was born on April 10 1938 as George I. Waidner Jr. to the late George I. and Virginia L. Waidner. As a child he picked up the nick-name Fritz. When the DMV verbally accepted his name as Fritz Waidner on his Drivers License he was forever destined to have two official names! A visitation was held at Salem United Methodist Church in Irmo on Tuesday July 29 at 1:00 PM. The service did follow at 2:00 PM. Fritz graduated from the University of Maryland in 1963 where he was an All-American Lacrosse player. He began his working career at the Marriott in Washington D.C. working under JW Marriott himself. He left the big city and moved to Anderson South Carolina in 1964 after marrying Judy P. Minyard. He saw South Carolina in the 1960s as a pristine and beautiful place where peaceful living could be achieved. He began his career in the automobile business under the tutelage of Judson T. Minyard and in 1976 opened his first automobile dealership in Columbia. In 1983 he sold the franchises in Fritzs Sports Cars and opened Fritzs Pontiac Cadillac and Buick in Newberry. In 1991 he sold that business and embarked on an adventure in residential real estate. The business grew and ultimately became Irmo Properties. Fritzs favorite pastimes were boating and exercising at the YMCA. He enjoyed his life to the fullest and was the eternal optimist. When others were afraid he seized opportunities. He approached life with boldness courage and faith. Fritz was an inspiration to many especially his four children.
