Garry L. Needham, 57, of Chapin, died Thursday, March 17, 2016 at Lexington Medical Center, W. Columbia, SC.
Born January 14, 1959, Big Springs, TX, the son of Mary Needham, Bucknell, England, and the late Maj. Lewis Needham, Pahala, HI.
After his parents retirement from USAF, Garry resided in Bucknell, England.
In 1984 he moved to the Hudson Valley area of NY to marry Tina Amicucci Needham and became a HAZMAT driver for Suburban Propane and Paraco Gas Co. He moved to South Carolina in 2005 and was most recently employed at AmeriGas Co. in Lexington, SC.
Besides his family, Garry's passions were listening to all genres of music including jazz, blues and especially heavy metal and rock. He loved the open road and often said that riding his motorcycle was his "therapy".
Garry's impact on the world around him will not be soon forgotten. The product of a military family, he possessed a world view of tolerance and acceptance. This made him easily approachable and a father-figure and friend to many neighborhood kids.
Garry never passed an opportunity to rescue or offer assistance to those he met along the road, whether they be his fellow man or a wounded animal. This good samaritan quality resides deep within both his children. Garry's great sense of humor, practical jokes, kindness, compassion, and sincerity, will be greatly missed by all.
In addition to his mother and wife, Garry is survived by his two children, Victoria Needham and Drew Needham, both of Chapin, SC; sisters, Carolynn Varnagatas (David), Chicago, IL and Leoma Needham, Bucknell, England; niece and nephews, Andrea (Toby), Matthew, Nathan (Janice), and Adam (Kirsty); in-laws, Diane and Andy Amicucci, Chapin SC; and brother-in-law, Dwayne Amicucci, Danbury, CT.
Garry was pre-deceased by a sister, Medora Evangelista, Pahala, HI .
