Gary Mitchell "Mitch" Martin, 70, of Chapin, SC, died Wednesday, January 29, 2025.

Born on June 6,1954, in Newberry, SC, he was a son of the late Gary Rothell and Martha Shealy Martin.

Mitch was a forklift operator working in food service warehousing for many years until retirement.

He was a member of St. Jacob's Lutheran Church, and he loved his church family. He was active in the Up and Going Seniors Group and enjoyed the many fellowship opportunities that his church family offered. He was also a member of the Dutch Fork Historical Society.

Mitch was most comfortable outdoors, and he loved hunting and fishing. His other hobbies included the love of movies, specifically action and sci-fi, and knowing how films were made. Mitch had a deep interest in history, most notably military history and Dutch Fork history. He also spent a lot of time researching and learning about his family genealogy.

He also was very proud of being a member of the Chapin community and loved attending the local community events and sporting events at the Chapin schools.

He loved spending time with family and enjoyed attending the Shealy family reunions, spending time with his grandson, Brian, and going to baseball games, both locally and around South Carolina.

Something he shared with his daughter was going to numerous Carolina games and always staying until the very end.

Mitch is survived by his wife, Julieta Martin, Chapin, SC; his daughter and son in law, Johanne and Doug Sullivan, Irmo, SC; grandson, Brian Douglas Sullivan, Jr. Irmo, SC; half-brother, Kemper Shealy Kimber, Chapin, SC; one nephew, Kemper Shealy Kibler, Jr., Williamsburg, VA; two nieces, Susan Kibler Atlanta, GA; and Paula Kibler Higashida Johns Creek, GA.

Mitch is preceded in death by his parents, half-sister, Shelby Kibler Webb and half-brother, Ronald Kibler.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 7, 2025, at St. Jacob's Lutheran Church.

A visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Whitaker Funeral Home, Chapin.
