Genel "Gene" Miles Harris, age 83, of Prosperity, died Friday, October 7, 2022.

Born April 12, 1939 in Venia, VA, he was a son of the late Barnie and Sadie Thomas Harris. He has been married for 44 years to his loving wife, Hazel B Harris.

Gene was a hard worker, loved his family, and loved his Lord. He was of the Pentecostal faith.

His work was his passion, and he spent many years as a commercial truck driver, ultimately retiring from McClam & Associates in Little Mountain.

In addition to his wife, Gene is survived by a son Cheyenne Harris (Debbie) of Belfast, VA; a daughter Judy Lester (Randall) of Lebanon, VA; step-sons Jerry Boyd (Nancy) of Little Mountain and Leon Boyd (Mildred) of Council, VA; a step-daughter Scarlett Boyd of Prosperity; a sister Eula Gay Hess (Harlis) of Rosedale, VA; 6 grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and a special uncle Graden Thomas.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters Shirley Johnson, Barbara Sue Thomas, Patty Blankenship, Anna Ruth Harris, Roberta Stone, and infant Peggy Harris; brothers Lawrence Harris and Nathan B.F. Harris.

Funeral services will be held by the Rev. Steve Perkins at 3:00 PM on Thursday, October 13, 2022, at Whitaker Funeral Home, Newberry. The family will receive friends preceding the service from 1:00-3:00 PM. Interment will follow at Newberry Memorial Gardens.
