George Edward "Ed" Haltiwanger, 90, of Newberry, SC, died Thursday, November 9, 2017, at Newberry County Memorial Hospital.
Born in Little Mountain, SC, on March 2, 1927, he was a son of the late George Langford and Mildred Kinard Haltiwanger.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of WW II, and the former owner of Haltiwanger Tire Center and Haltiwanger Trucking Co.
Ed was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer where he coached the women's softball team for many years, participated in Fifty Plus with his wife, and served on the property committee.
Who can speak better about this man than his grandchildren: "He has always been the man who we celebrate most on Veteran's Day. He was a proud member of the U.S. Navy Sea Bees 29th Construction Battalion during WW II, and truly epitomized the hard-working nature of "the greatest generation." He taught us to honor and respect and be thankful for those who dedicated their lives to serving our great country.
Today we are heartbroken that he is no longer with us to celebrate. But we know his reunion in heaven with so many loved ones, especially his wife, our "Nanny", is greater than anything we can imagine. And we find comfort and peace in knowing that through our faith in Jesus Christ, and by His sacrifice for us, we will surely meet again! Love you Papa. Always, Your Grandchildren."

(Debbie) Haltiwanger, all of Newberry; grandchildren, Lori Turner Justice Gray (Mike), Anne Haltiwanger Holland (Andy), Jeremy Haltiwanger (Becca), Christopher Haltiwanger (Marianne), Ashley Fitzgerald (Brian), and Jason Haltiwanger (Amanda); great-grandchildren, Ainsleigh, Taylor, and Izabel Gray, Sam Holland, Skylar, Reece, and Hattie Haltiwanger, Colin and Lochlan Fitzgerald, Caleb, Reese, Evelyn, Ethan, and Lily Haltiwanger.
