George Richard Long, 81, of Pomaria passed away on Wednesday, November 30, 2022.

Born on October 8, 1941 in Pomaria, South Carolina he was a son of the late Richard Simpson Long and Pearl Amick Long.

He was a member of Pomaria Lutheran Church where he served on the church council and various committees of the church. He retired from the South Carolina Tax Commission. Following retirement, he enjoyed running his own BBQ business, known throughout the community as George's BBQ. He was also a retired member of the Pomaria Fire Department, Pomaria Ruritan Club, a life member of the Masonic Lodge #151AFM in Peak, and the Woodmen of the World. For many years he enjoyed spending time with friends and family in Maggie Valley, NC.

He is survived by his 3 children, Trudy L. Davis (Todd), Tarry Long (Melinda), and Tommy Long (Lisa), all of Pomaria.; grandchildren, Hunter Key, Amber Long Riddle (Brandon), and Eric Long; great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Aiden Riddle; siblings, Jonell H. Dixon of Pomaria and Johnnie Lowder of Charlotte, NC.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Brenda K. Long; siblings, Mary Kinard, Sara Dehart, Ruby Leopard, and Jean Suber Kinard.

The family extends a special appreciation for the compassionate care provided through his extended illness by Glenda's Care, especially to Joyce and Beverly; to Dr. Carroll Pinner and Dr. Ben Pinner; Amedisys Hospice of Columbia, especially Joey and Avis.

A graveside service will be conducted by Vicar Natalie Cook at Pomaria Cemetery on Monday, December 5, 2022 at 3:00 p.m. The family will receive friends immediately following at the Pomaria Lutheran Church fellowship hall.
