George Walter Dominick 68 of Newberry died Friday July 15 2011 at Palmetto Richland Hospital. Born in Columbia on September 10 1942 George was a son of the late Teddy Parker and Nell Ruff Dominick. He was also predeceased by his brother Teddy P. Dominick Jr. George was a graduate of Columbia High School Newberry College and received his masters degree from the University of South Carolina. He served in the South Carolina National Guard and was retired from Pleasants Hardware of Columbia. He was currently working with Stokes-Trainor of Newberry and as a Volunteer Reader at Boundary Street Elementary School. George enjoyed gardening and was also an avid cook who along with his wife shared their cooking talents with people throughout the community. George was a member of the Newberry Rotary Club and was currently serving on the Newberry College Alumni Board of Managers. He was a member of the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer and the Lutheran Men in Mission. He is survived by his wife Sheryl Fincher; daughter Jane (Hance) West of Richmond VA; sister LaNelle D. (Robert) Barber of Charleston; grandchildren John Patrick West and Alex West; father and mother-in-law Col. and Mrs. H. Thomas Fincher (Clare) of Chapin; sister-in-law Laura S. Dominick of Prosperity sister-in-law and husband Susan Fincher Zais and Brig. Gen. Mitchell M. Zais of Columbia; and numerous nieces and nephews cousins and other loving relatives and friends all of whom will miss him very much. George also leaves behind his two beloved dogs Cam and BoBo. A visitation for family and friends were held Tuesday July 19 2011 from 5:00-7:00 at Whitaker Funeral Home in Newberry. Funeral services were at 4:00 on Wednesday at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer by the Rev. Dr. David Seymour and Rev. Floyd Sides.
