Obituary

George Woodrow Hawkins 97 husband of Gertie Lee "Gee" Hawkins died April 8 2013. Born in Prosperity he was the son of the late George Irvine and Rilla Epting Hawkins. He proudly served our country during World War II in the US Army Air Force and was a driver for Four Star General Hap Arnold. Woodrow was a self employed broker serving the Winn-Dixie Grocery Stores from 1950 - 2005. He was known to many as the "Watermelon King" selling watermelons from Florida to Virginia. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. Surviving in addition to his wife of 74 years are his son and daughter-in-law Rudy and Connie Hawkins; his three sisters Elise Bedenbaugh of Prosperity Dorothy Wise of Newberry and Reba (Earl) Weisner of Aiken; two grandsons Kevin (Karen) Hawkins and Scott (Tonya) Hawkins; and five great grandchildren Adam Ella Mary Kate Kyle and Dustin. Services will be held Saturday April 13 2013 at 11:00am in the Mausoleum Chapel at Greenville Memorial Gardens officiated by Reverend Susan Crowell. The family will receive friends following the service at a reception at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Mackey Mortuary. Online registry available at www.mackeymortuary.com
