Gerald Thomas Perry, 76, of Newberry, died Sunday, January 24, 2016 at Self Regional Memorial Hospital in Greenwood, SC Born on December 19, 1939 in Newberry, he was a son of the late Thomas Bacon Perry and Ollie Ruth Morris Perry. He was a graduate of Newberry College, taught school in Kershaw and retired as store manager with Goodyear. Additionally he served as a volunteer at the Newberry Opera House, enjoyed the opportunity to play golf and played in card tournaments. He is survived by his wife of 52 years. Joan Bowen Perry; children, Thomas Perry (Missy) of Newberry and Donna McCallum (Steve) of Columbia; grandchildren, Josh McCallum, Nora Perry and Emma Perry; and siblings, Robert "Bobby" Perry (Fran) of Lexington, James Vernon Perry (Sara) of Chester, Danny Lynn Perry (Karen) of Summerville and Lucy Moates of Prosperity. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 pm on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Whitaker Funeral Home Chapel in Newberry conducted by the Rev. Rodney Gunter. Burial will follow in Newberry Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be prior to the service on Thursday from 1:00 until 2:00 pm.
