COLUMBIA - Gertrude Shealy Hamiter 100 widow of Lloyd Hamiter and a resident of the Lowman Home White Rock died Tuesday September 9 2008. She formerly resided at 1305 Haynsworth Road in Columbia.Born August 3 1908 in White Rock she was the daughter of the late Ernest Unger Shealy and Maggie Richardson Shealy. Her father was a school teacher lawyer and magistrate at White Rock until 1925 when the family moved to Columbia where he taught school and practiced law.Mrs. Hamiter graduated from White Rock School in 1924 attended the University of South Carolina and graduated from Bowen-Canasta Business College in Columbia in 1927. She worked as a bookkeeper at Belks. On July 27 1935 she married Lloyd Hamiter one of the co-founders of Sunshine Laundry and Cleaners and of Crystal Linen Service. She served as president of Columbias Cherokee Rose Garden Club and as president of the Lutheran Women of Richland and Lexington Counties. She was president of the Newberry College Womens League from 1950 1953 and was a delegate from South Carolina to the constituting convention of the Lutheran Church Women of the Lutheran Church in America held in 1962 in Minneapolis. She was a longtime active member of Reformation Lutheran Church. She became a resident of the Lowman Home in September 1997.She is survived by a daughter Julie Edwina Hamiter McLeod and son-in-law Walton J. McLeod of Little Mountain; a son David Lloyd Hamiter of Columbia; and two grandsons David L. Hamiter II of Lexington and Walton J. McLeod IV of Columbia. She was predeceased by her sister Naomi Shealy Lorick.Funeral services were conducted Thursday September 11 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Reformation Lutheran Church with interment in Greenlawn Memorial Park Columbia. The family did greet friends one hour prior to the service in the Fellowship Hall of Reformation Lutheran Church.In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Reformation Lutheran Church 1118 Union Street Columbia S.C. 29201; Newberry College Womens League c/o Gloria Nelson 1415 Clarkson Avenue Newberry S.C. 29108; or the Lowman Home P.O.
