Gertrude D. Finneran 90 of Newberry died Friday November 07 2014 at Newberry County Memorial Hospital. The Rosary will be prayed at 5:00 PM Sunday 9 November at Whitaker Funeral Home. A wake will be at 5:45 PM Sunday 9 November at Whitaker Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 AM Monday 10 November at St. Mark Catholic Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery following Mass. Born on May 22 1924 in South Bend Indiana she was the daughter of the late Lewis B. Duck and Genevieve Turnock Duck. Mrs. Finneran was a graduate of Central High School in South Bend Indiana and attended the University of Florida. Trude was a beautiful gracious talented and loving lady who dedicated her life to the welfare and support of her family her church and her country. She was generous and caring; volunteering much of her time in helping the homeless the elderly and needy children. She was a Girl Scout leader a Gray Lady a School Teacher and a Care Giver. Gertrude was an active and loyal member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Newberry. She served the church in numerous capacities including serving as a past president of the Ladies Guild and chairlady of the committee which developed the church cemetery. She loved to play cards was certified as a bridge instructor and was a champion cribbage player. An avid reader she loved the arts and theater and was especially fond of Ballet. Artistic in nature she loved her flower gardens raised orchids as a hobby and enjoyed creating flower arrangements. She was quite proficient in a variety of sports: swimming tennis bowling bike riding and fishing..She had a love for animals and was seldom seen without one of her beloved shelties. She established homes for her family in support of her husbands many military assignments in the States Germany Japan and England. She was admired as a gracious hostess to high government officials foreign attaches and diplomats while living in London. She loved to travel with her family and had the privilege of visiting all the countries of Western Europe Mexico Canada Japan and all US States except Alaska. Gertrude is survived by her husband of 72 years Colonel Tom C. Finneran and their children Thomas Mike Finneran of Orangeburg and Carmel Carm Finneran of Leesville. Pallbearers will be Al Heil Joe Goeckner Gary Manuse Benetio Pascual Jerry Coffee Dom Maddallena Bob Partridge Mark Lyonand Charles Pagan. Honorary pallbearers will be members of St. Mark Guild. Eucharistic Ministers will be Deacon Loignon and Marianna De Lachia. Readers will be Michael OConnell and Gregory Franz.
